What
are the mail delivery options on AiT?
You have these
options for your message delivery for each group:
ÖIndividual Emails Messages
are delivered one at a time to your email inbox. This is the best option if
you want to keep up on the latest posts immediately. Email attachments, if
included in a message and allowed by your moderator, will be sent directly to
you. [Attachment are not allowed on the AiT site
given past problems with viruses]
ÖDaily Digest
Messages are delivered in batches of 25 or daily, whichever comes sooner. This
is the best option if you want to receive fewer mail messages and don't need
up-to-the minute posts in your inbox. Email attachments are not available in
digests.
ÖOnly Special Announcements
This means you will receive email messages only when the group moderator
posts a "Special Announcement" message. This is a good option if
you want to pass on day-to-day discussion for very busy groups but do want to
receive important updates from the group moderator. Keep in mind that usage
by each moderator will vary. (The moderator may choose to never use this
feature, in which case you would never receive email messages, or may choose
to use it frequently.) [The feature was used only
once].
ÖNo Mail / Web Only
This option puts email message delivery on hold, for example while you are on vacation. If message archives are
available, this option also permits you to read messages at the Yahoo! Groups
web site. Note that message archive options are determined by each moderator,
and that some groups have no web message archives. [AiT
does have archives, but you must be registered with a valid yahoo account to
have access to these. See tutorial on registering with yahoo.]
ÖTo set any of these options, go to My Groups , click on Edit My Groups and choose from the drop-down list of
message delivery options for your group.
ÖOr, go to Edit My Membership, found top
right corner, and edit the message delivery options. [Preference goes to
*Edit my membership*] This is included in another tutorial that follows registration
You
can post messages to your group by email or from the Yahoo! Groups web site:
Via Email
To send a message to other group members,
create an email and address it to groupname@yahoogroups.com, substituting the
actual name of your group for "groupname." Group names are not case
sensitive. [The AiT address is : art_therapy@yahoogroups.com
Note:
you can only post to
groups you've joined, and only from email addresses registered with Yahoo!
Groups.
If you misspell the
name of a group, or attempt to send an email from an account other than the
one you joined under, your message will not be delivered.
In general, messages are delivered almost
immediately. Occasionally there are delays of a few minutes or hours due to
high-volume traffic or scheduled system downtime.
Yahoo!
Groups posts archived messages to the web site almost as soon as they are
received.
If
you don't see your message, please wait a few minutes and check again. Here
are some other possible explanations:
ÖYou are not a member of the group, and your
message was returned to you or ignored.
ÖYour group is moderated, and the moderator has
not approved your message.
ÖYour group is restricted, and the moderator has
not approved your subscription request.
You sent an email from an email address other
than the one you used to regis ter, and your message was returned or ignored.
(This is done to prevent spamming.)
There
are two ways you can do this.
ÖGo to the My Groups page (make sure you're
signed in).
ÖSelect No Mail/Web Only from the drop-down menu.
ÖClick the Save Changes
button.
Or,
you can send an email to: groupname-nomail@yahoogroups.com. Replace
"groupname" in the address with the actual name of your group. For
AiT send to : art_therapy-nomail@yahoogroups.com
Or again, you can
change your settings from the edit my membership area. See instructions
posted in Question number 1.
Currently, you can only post messages from
your primary address specified when you registered with Yahoo! Groups. You
can't post using your alternative email address.
First, confirm that
the group exists and that you are a member. Visit your My Groups page and
look for the group name.
If
the group name does not appear, one of the
following may have happened:
ÖYou were unsubscribed from the group.
The
group was deleted. [not the case for AiT]
If the group name
does appear, check the following:
ÖYour subscription to that group is set to Web only/No mail. Choose Daily Digest or Individual Emails from the Deliver Options section.
There
may be a problem with your Yahoo! Groups account. If there is an "Email
account is bouncing" error messsage near the top of the page, click on
the error link for details.
If there is no
bounce error message, please contact our Customer Support team with the
following information:
Öthe email address you used to register with
Yahoo! Groups
Öthe names of one or more groups you joined
the date you stopped receiving emails from
your group(s)
Did you recently
change your email address?
Make sure you entered it correctly and
that the email address you entered is valid and operational. Also, make sure
that you have replied to the Yahoo! Groups confirmation message.

mail options in section 1.
